September 12 Meeting!

WHAT: Monthly Susquehanna Valley Conservatives Public Meeting

WHEN: Monday Sept 12, 2016 at 7:00 PM

WHERE: Baylor Conference Room – Best Western Country Cupboard Inn – north of Lewisburg along Route 15

PRESENTER/TOPIC: Bob Ritter will discuss the current push for an Article V Convention of States for Constitutional Amendments to 1) Require a balanced federal budget, and 2) Impose term limits on federal Senators and Representatives.

America is being crippled by out-of-control federal spending, federal debt (currently $ 20 trillion and rising), federal regulations, and a massive shift of power from the states to the federal government. There is no reason to believe future elections will materially change this. The situation is unsustainable therefore the states must consider their constitutionally-sanctioned option to prevent severe economic and social consequences as a result of runaway federal policies and actions.

During the Constitutional Convention of 1787, the Framers recognized that the federal government being created could become so powerful and tyrannical that it would never initiate actions to re-establish original constitutional limits on its power. The Framers included Article V of the Constitution which authorized a process wherein the states, independent of Congress, can debate, adopt, and ratify amendments to the Constitution.

The Article V process provides that Congress shall call a convention to consider amendments upon the application of at least 2/3 (currently 34) of the states. If amendment(s) is/are adopted in convention, the amendment(s) would then go to the states for ratification, with an affirmative vote by at least 3/4 (currently 38) of the states required for ratification.
