February Meeting

Susquehanna Valley Conservatives is hosting a Republican Candidates for the US Senate Forum on Monday, February 13 at 7:00pm at the Best Western Country Cupboard Inn, Lewisburg.

January Speaker – Sam Rohrer

Sam Rohrer – Conservative Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2012

It didn’t take long for the 2012 kickoff meeting of Susquehanna Valley Conservatives to seem like a good old-fashioned revival meeting as Sam Rohrer, Republican from Berks County, who is seeking the nomination for the U S Senate seat currently held by Bob Casey Jr, presented his views

Occasional spontaneous applause and even a cry of ‘Amen!’ were heard from an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 100.

Rohrer opened by stating that our nation is at a crossroads. We are on a path that is taking us toward socialism, and the leader of the band is the current occupant of the White House.

He spoke from a historical perspective:  For the first time in the history of the world a representative republic – characterized as a ‘Holy Experiment’ by Benjamin Franklin – had been created. The founding fathers foresaw the future even as they were creating the Constitution – ‘We have given you a republic, if you can keep it.’ Prophetic words indeed !

They were right. The Federal government has moved far from its core duties as outlined in the Constitution. As a result, freedom and liberty are suffering.

Mr. Rohrer’s credentials as a conservative were validated again and again by the many examples he presented from his service in the General Assembly.

Rohrer addressed the question ‘How do you know an elected official is going to keep his promises and use his vote according to what he told the electorate?’  He has 7 questions he asks himself before voting on issues:

  • Is it moral ?
  • Is it constitutional ?
  • Does it preserve individual freedom or does it increase the power of government ?
  • Is it in the interest of the general public or does it bow to special interests ?
  • Is it an effective, efficient way to address the problem ?
  • Do we have the money to pay for it ?

The answers to these questions dictate how Mr. Rohrer will ‘spend’ his vote; which he describes as the most valuable asset a legislator has.

Our next meeting will be held Monday Feb 13 and will feature a forum for candidates for the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania’s U S Senate seat currently occupied by Bob Casey Jr.

Please join us. Your support is vital.
